An Epic Musical Journey

Tilburg bills itself as Prog Rock, a label that fits as well as any. But really this music is about soundscapes. Take their track "Conquistador" - a swirl of synthesizer sounds and drums that evokes several different moods as the track evolves. Moving from triumphal march to dark drone, the track goes many different places over the course of four minutes. "Lights of Zeus" is fundamentally driven by a lot of uptempo percussion, very well produced and recorded. Synthesized sounds pop in like science fiction sound effects, so it's almost like trance, but with world music elements sneaking in around the edges. "The Whale" was the first Tilburg song I ever heard, and it was such a well-produced track that I couldn't believe this was indie music. Like most Tilburg songs, it could easily serve as a movie soundtrack, or background music for an action video game. In the end, the Tilburg catalog takes listeners on a great journey through rock, electronica, world, dance, and - yes - prog. It's easy to put the headphones on, just sit back and be carried along on a wave of sound for hours. Check it out.
